MayDay
Hi! My name is Helen May Day,
I have ADHD myself and use dozens of strategies every day.
To the world, it looks like I’ve succeeded -
I have a family with 2 children, a mortgage,
a bachelor's degree, 20 years with the same employer
and time to volunteer in the community.
I have worked hard to prevent my social anxiety and ADHD challenges from getting in the way of the life I want.
I can help you do the same.
With over 17 years of experience
in mainstream and special education,
I know how the school system works from the inside.
But as a mother of two boys with ADHD,
I also know what it’s like to sit on the other side of the desk,
advocating for your child and searching for answers
that traditional systems don’t always provide.
I combine my professional teaching expertise
with a decade of "on the ground" parenting reality
to help you meet each obstacle with
deep listening, flexibility, and practical solutions.

How I got here
Back in 2017, school pick-up was a daily nightmare.
I’d wait patiently outside my eldest son’s classroom, holding my toddler’s hand, waiting for the other children to go home and the classroom to empty. I’d be clutching some snacks and concentrating on my breathing, trying to set things up for success. But the moment the way was clear, and I stepped into that empty classroom, my eldest would transform into someone I didn’t recognise.
His eyes bulged out of his head, which turned bright red instantly. His hands would turn into claws at his sides. His mouth would open wide, baring all his teeth, and he would start to scream at me.
I would sit on the floor in front of him as my toddler went off to play with the classroom toys and the teacher pottered around the edges of the room. I would sit and offer him his favourite snacks and take whatever he would hurl at me, until he ran out of steam.
It was bewildering. Frustrating. Honestly, heartbreaking.
I was a special needs teacher. I understood behaviour. I knew the system.
And yet — I couldn’t make sense of what was happening for my own son.
One particularly awful afternoon, something shifted.
Being a good Mum wasn’t going to be enough — I needed to be an awesome Mum.
That meant understanding the why behind what I was seeing, not just reacting to it.
Not long after, I came across ADHD life coaching.
And for the first time, things made sense.
This wasn’t about managing behaviour.
This was about understanding the ADHD brain.
That changed everything.

Understanding the 'Why' behind the behaviour.
That 2017 realization changed everything for me. I stopped trying to 'fix' behaviour and started seeking to understand the brain behind it. This is the foundation of my coaching today.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. My approach combines the science of the ADHD brain with the practicality of a teacher’s mindset.
To ensure you get the highest standard of support, I have trained as a Certified ADHD Life Coach with the iACTcenter (ICF accredited) under the mentorship of Laurie Dupar. This training allows me to help you navigate the specific "manual" of your unique brain.
I also incorporate Positive Intelligence® (PQ) coaching, having trained under Shirzad Chamine (Stanford/Yale lecturer). This helps us work not just on your external strategies, but on the mental fitness needed to handle the shame and self-sabotage that so often come with ADHD.
